Basilica of Severus


The Basilica of Severus was a basilica built by Roman emperor Septimius Severus in the place of Leptis Magna in what is now Libya. The basilica was built in the beginning of the 3rd century and served as a administrative and judicial building. The design was based on the Basilica of Ulpia in Rome.

The building had a length of 95 m and was 35 m wide. It was subdivided into a midship on both sides flanked by a side leg. The pillars were of Egyptian granite. Both short sides of the building had an apse. Externe link
