Bernd H. Niehaus Quesada


Bernd H. Niehaus Quesada is a Costa Rican jurist, born in San Jose, Costa Rica, on April 14, 1941. Personal data and studies

His parents were Hans Niehaus Ahrens and Fanny Quesada Córdoba. He married Gabriela Meinert Daeweritz. He is the father of two children, Jens and Dirk Niehaus Meinert.

He studied at the Seminary School in San José, Costa Rica. He graduated as a lawyer at the University of Costa Rica and studied economics and political science in Germany. He holds a doctorate in International Law from the University of Strasbourg, France. Public charges

He was Cultural Attaché of the Embassy of Costa Rica in the Federal Republic of Germany from 1963 to 1966, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs and Worship from 1978 to 1980, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Worship from 1980 to 1982 and from 1990 to 1994 and Ambassador of Costa Rica to the United Nations from 1998 to 2002. From 2002 to 2010 he was Costa Rican Ambassador to Germany. Other activities

He was a candidate for the OAS General Secretariat in 1994, however, the position was awarded to the Colombian César Gaviria. He is a member of the United Nations International Law Commission. He has been professor of Public and Private International Law in several Costa Rican universities.
