Flemish nationalism

The Flemish movement employs a variant of the flag of Flanders where the lion has the tongue and the black paws instead of red.

The Flemish movement (in Dutch: Vlaamse Beweging) is a popular term used to describe the movement that seeks greater autonomy for the Flemish region, for the protection of the Dutch language within it, and its culture. The most extreme pole of this movement is dominated by ultra-right organizations like the Vlaams Belang (the second party in votes in the last parliamentary elections in the parliamentary elections), Voorpost, Nationalistische Studentenvereniging (Union of Students Nationalist), and many others. The most radical leftist organization is a Brussels-based organization, with Marxist and Flemish independence-inspired Meervoud. There are also many moderate parties.
