Jamhuri Day is the National Day of Kenya, celebrated every December 12, to commemorate the official establishment of the Republic of Kenya that day of the year 1964. The independence of Kenya over the United Kingdom was achieved a year earlier, on December 12, 1963, and therefore, Jamhuri Day is a double event and is the most important party in the country, marked by the important cultural festivities that celebrate the cultural heritage of the country. This day is also associated with Dedan Kimathi, considered by many Kenyans as the hero who achieved independence from the country.
