Absynth is a virtual, commercial and proprietary synthesizer, currently in its fifth generation. It is available for Microsoft Windows and Mac OS. Developed by Native Instruments, it combines a series of traditional (subtractive) and modern (granular, sample-based) synthesis techniques to create complex sounds and timbres.

From a technical point of view, Absynth has three main modules, each of which can be used for a particular type of synthesis: subtractive, frequency modulation, amplitude or granular modulation, as well as direct audio sampling. Each of the modules also has a filter (12/24 dB, LP, HP, BP, Notch and Comb), as well as a distortion algorithm and effects. The effects consist of a trio of resonant filters, "tube" reverberation, and a multi-tap echo. Absynth also has a modulation matrix that allows the user to use three LFOs to create motion in the sound.
