The Revolutionary Flag of Lares also proposed to represent the Antillean Confederation. The flag is derived from the flag of the Dominican Republic from 1844 to 1849.
The Antillean Confederation was the vehement idea of Ramón Emeterio Betances on the need for the natives of the Spanish Greater Antilles to unite in a regional entity that sought to preserve the sovereignty and well-being of Cuba, the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico. His main idea was to subsequently terminate European colonialism in America, as well as a response to the Monroe Doctrine and its Latin phrase for Americans, which Ramon Emeterio Betances changed to Antilles for the Antilles. The main meeting point of the idealists was San Felipe de Puerto Plata, in the Dominican Republic.
