Augusto Malavé Villalba


Augusto Malavé Villalba (Carúpano, Venezuela, September 1, 1904 - Rome, Italy, May 22, 1977) was a Venezuelan shoemaker, syndicalist and politician, outstanding in creating and defending workers' rights. Lifetime

He was the son of Pedro Malavé and Isabel Villalba. He could not attend school so he had to be self-taught and from a very early age he learned the trade of shoemaker, from the age of twelve he worked in it. In the year of 1924, he founded a satirical newspaper, Cyril Alberto, in Carupano, the newspaper is closed and Malavé is imprisoned for two years. In 1929 he moved to Caracas still practicing as a shoemaker, there he met José Toston with whom he established the bases to create the Manual Shoemakers Union in 1932. In 1934, he founded the Cooperativa de Zapateros, from there he began his incursion as a political activist .

In February 1936, he founded the Federation of Workers of the Federal District. In March of the same year, together with Salvador de la Plaza and Miguel Acosta Saignes, he founded the Progressive Republican Party (PRP). In November, he participates in the founding of the Venezuelan Confederation of Labor (CVT) where he holds the position of secretary of education and cultural problems.
