the supernatural

Superno Dei or Superno Dei nutu is the name of a motu proprio of Pope John XXIII promulgated on June 5, 1960, the day of the Solemnity of Pentecost. The text of the document was written by Cardinal Secretary of State, Domenico Tardini.

By means of his motu proprio, the Pope instituted the preparatory commissions of the Second Vatican Council: bishops, discipline of the clergy and laity, religious, theology, sacraments, liturgy, seminars, apostolate of the laity, Oriental Churches and missions. The themes of the commissions corresponded to the topics proposed by the bishops, superior generals and faculties of theology and law for the Council.

The commissions were presided over by a cardinal and were made up of bishops and ecclesiastics. It also had experts and selected consultants. A central commission was also created consisting of the presidents of each thematic commission and the "general secretary" (the presidency of the central commission was in the hands of the same pontiff).

The next day, on June 6, Pope John XIII appointed the first general secretary of the central commission: Monsignor Pericle Felici. Bibliography
