Claus Luthe

Claus Luthe (Wuppertal, December 8, 1932 - Munich, March 17, 2008) was a German car designer. He is best known as the designer of the NSU Ro 80. In addition, he designed cars for Fiat and BMW.

At the beginning of his career, Luthe worked at Fiat, where he worked for example at the front of the Fiat 500. Then he went to NSU, where he was responsible for the Ro80 design in 1967 - one of the rare cars with a wreck motor. The second generation of NSU Prinz is out of hand. In 1971 he moved to Audi, where he worked on the Volkswagen K70, Audi 50 (later as the first generation of Volkswagen Polo produced), the second generation Audi 100 and the Audi 80. From April 1976 until the spring of 1990, he was the design manager at BMW. Major BMW models were designed under Luthe: E30 3 Series, E31 8 Series, E32 7 Series and E34 5 Series (designed by Ercole Spada).

Luthe left at BMW after being convicted of murdering his 33-year-old drug addicted son. He was imprisoned for two years and nine months but did not have to imprisonment. After that, he would remain active as an external consultant for BMW.
