Hooft van Iddekinge, son of Mr. Scato François van Iddekinge (1755-1829) from his second marriage to Catharina Graafland (1765-1805) belonged to the Dutch family Van Iddekinge from Groningen. His parents lived in the Boteringestraat and had an outdoor residence in Kleinemeer, where he was born. He became cadet at the Artillery and Genius School in Delft on September 23, 1815, was the infantry officer (1818-1830), then the officer of the general staff (1830-1843) and was eventually transferred to the weapon of the infantry at 3 November 1843. He was, among other things, honored in Delft, Deventer, Antwerp, Oirschot and Maastricht and retired on November 26, 1843 as head of the staff of the 3rd division of infantry. After that he settled at Huis Vennebroek in Paterswolde. In 1866 he became director of the Provincial Museum of Antiquities of Drenthe, the current Drents Museum.

Hooft van Iddekinge was married twice and received a son and daughter in both marriages. He was Knight 4th Class in the Military William Order and Carrier of the Metal Cross. A miniature exists in the collection B.J.L. baron de Geer van Jutphaas in Maarn.
