Introduced by Gregory Bateson, a meta-dialogue is a dialogue about some problematic topic, in which not only is the problem itself discussed but its entire structure is given in agreement with it, so that it becomes a great help for the development of the learning process.
As the name implies, the meta-dialog is a dialogue about the same dialogue (analogous to metalanguage), that is to say, it is a communicative form in which it is implicit, and perhaps explicitly, how we communicate , while other issues of concern to the author are discussed at the same time.
In an analogous way to the Platonic dialogue and the Renaissance colloquium, the meta-dialogue is a combination of rhetoric and didactics, which seeks to dynamically express some theme.
