Élie Jondot is a French writer, born in Montcenis, near Autun in Saône-et-Loire in 1770 and died in 1834. Seeing himself about to be reached by the requisition, Jondot, who was a supporter of the old regime, fled to the west of France and became secretary of a Vendean chief. After the pacification of the Vendée, he settled in Paris, published royalist articles and writings, among others a Parallel of Louis XVI and Tso-ching (1797), and founded a house of education, which he leads while being an active contributor to the Journal des Débats.

In 1804, he left his boarding school to become a professor of history at the Ecole Militaire de Fontainebleau. Jondot successively occupies then chairs at the academies of Rouen (1810) and Orleans, and renounces definitively the teaching in 1813. From this time, he mainly deals with asserting the properties he has in the Marne, and finish his days in Paris. Works edit code
