Lucio Aurelio Orestes (consul 126 BC)


Lucio Aurelio Orestes (in Latin, Lucius Aurelius L. f. L. Orestes) was a politician and military officer of the Roman Republic.

Son of the consul of the year 157 a. C. Lucio Aurelio Orestes. He was consul in 126 a. Together with Marco Emilio Lépido.

He was sent to Sardinia to subdue the inhabitants of the island who had rebelled against Rome, as they had done before. Orestes remained in the province for three years until he succeeded in masterminding the revolt. Upon his return to Rome in 122 a. C. celebrated a triumph.

On the island, Caius Graco was the quaestor, who had a prominent performance in the duties of the post. He also served with Orestes who was later consul of 115 a. C. Marco Emilio Escauro.

This Aurelio Orestes got a mention, along with his brother C. Aurelio Orestes, in the list of orators in the Gross of Cicero, who, however, only says of them,
