Olympiad of languages ​​in Scandinavia


Språkolympiaden or as translated into Spanish "The Olympiad of languages" of Scandinavia is a language and culture competition in Spanish, French and German for high school and high school students in Sweden and Denmark.

The competition was started by the Spanish teachers, Marcelo Cea and Fernando López Serrano, from the Malmö Borgarskola high school in 2007. 13 schools in the city of Malmö registered and participated that year, which only took place in Spanish.

In its edition number two (2008-2009) it expanded to the whole southern region of Sweden (Skåne). That year, German and French were also introduced as languages ​​of the tournament and for the first time high school institutes were invited to participate. Another change that year was also that a special category was introduced for students with Spanish, French and German as a man-tongue. In that edition of the tournament, 43 schools from the south of the country participated.

The third year (2009-2010) the tournament becomes a national competition with five subsidiaries spread all over Sweden; Malmö Borgarskola as an organizing institute, Katedralskolan in Uppsala as a regional filian in the center of the country, Härnösands gymnasium as a subsidiary in the north, Sunnerbogymnasium in the city of Ljungby in the east and Högre Samskolan in Göteborg in the west. More than 6000 students from 170 schools and institutes from all over Sweden participated.

2010 - 2011 involved more than 7000 students from 300 schools and institutes throughout Sweden. The regional finals took place on March 18, 2011 in Malmö, Gothenburg, Ljunby, Uppsala and Härnösand. The national final was made on April 1, 2011 in Malmö.

2011 - 2012 the Olympiad is launched in Denmark under the name of Sprogolympiaden.
