The Oxford Companion to Chess


The Oxford Companion to Chess is a book written by David Hooper and Kenneth Whyld in an encyclopedic dictionary format. The second edition (1992) has over 2500 entries, and includes chess rules, a glossary of chess terms, strategy, and tactics, more than 500 short biographies of famous players, and to more than 700 openings and variants of openings.

In addition, it includes notes on chess modes around the world (such as shogi), variants of the game (such as three-dimensional chess), and other fantasy variants. Home
