Tower of Santa Ana (Alcalá la Real)


Torre de Santa Ana is the name of a construction (defensive tower or atalaya cristina) located in the town of Santa Ana (included in the municipality of Alcalá la Real), in the region of Sierra Sur, in the province of Jaén Spain). History

During the Islamic period, in which Alcalá la Real was an important fortified city of Al-Andalus. After the occupation in 1213 of the king Alfonso VIII of Castile, the fights between Al-Ándalus and kingdom of Castillas are continuous, until Fernando III of Castile and Alfonso X of Castile conquered, but being lost later. The final take in 1340 by Alfonso XI of Castile, remaining at the gates of the Kingdom of Granada, being a century and a half later when the Catholic Kings left Alcalá for the conquest of the Nasrid capital, with their conquest in 1492. >
