Ahaziah of Israel

Ahaziah was the eighth king of Israel. In Hebrew (אחזיה, transliterated "'jzyh." Ocozías is the traditional name of this king in Spanish, but a more faithful transcription would be Ajazíah). His story is recorded in the First Book of Kings 22:40, Second Book of Kings 1: 1-18 and in the Second Book of Chronicles 20: 35-37.

He ruled in Israel between 853 and 852 a.C for a period of almost two years, succeeded his father Ahab on the throne and walked in the same sins as his parents building altars and worshiping other gods. The confrontation between the clergy of Yahweh and that of other gods that had been manifesting in a bloody manner since the reign of his father, is again evident. In this case, Acozías after having fallen from a window is injured and is bedridden; resolves, therefore, to send an embassy to the prophets of Baal-zebul in Ekron (name that derives in Castilian in Beelzebub) these before arriving at this place they meet Elijah who prophesies the imminent death of the king saying: "No Is there a God in Israel that you send to consult Baal-zebul, the god of Ekron? " The king then sends several rushes to capture Elijah but they fail and the king dies.

It is said in the Second Book of the Chronicles that Ahaziah established a commercial alliance with Judah, cooperating in the construction of ships destined for Tarshish, the Bible says that this mission was not completed, as a punishment to Ahaziah and to the king of Judah for trusting him.

He died without losing any direct descendants, his brother Joram of Israel succeeded him on the throne.
