Cabo (geography)

Cape of Good Hope.

In geography, a cape or point is a geographical feature formed by a land mass that projects towards the interior of the sea; It receives this name especially when its influence on the flow of coastal currents is large, causing difficulties for navigation. Some capes are especially famous for this, such as Cape Horn and Cape Tablas de Los Vilos, both located in Chile. Cape Tindaris and Ponds of Marinello, Sicily

In Mexico, Cabo Catoche has a geographical and historical interest, linked to the explorations that preceded the conquest of Mexico. In Peru, capes are commonly called points and many of them have populations of guano birds. The National Reserve Guaneras Island, Islet and Point System includes 11 capes or guano points.

Navigation between capes without losing visual contact with the coast is called cabotage.
