Antigua Botanical Garden


Cattail Acalypha chamaedrifolia native to Antigua and Barbuda.

The Antigua Botanical Garden in Antigua Antigua Botanic Gardens is a multi-acre botanical garden in Saint John's, Antigua and Barbuda. It depends administratively of the Ministry of Agriculture of this Caribbean country.

Location

It is located near the Parliament Building in St Johns, located near the intersection of Factory Road and Independence Avenue.

History

The botanical garden opened in 1888 in a different location than the current one. In 1893 he moved to his permanent location.

After a period of 50 years of operation it was closed to the public in 1950.

It had a 30-year restoration and conditioning period as one of St Johns greatest attractions during the 1980s and 1990s.

In the late 1990s it was badly damaged by a hurricane. Once restored it shows us all its splendor. Collections

This botanical garden houses native plants of Antigua, for their preservation especially of those that are threatened or in danger of extinction by the loss of their habitat, as well as in the plants of economic interest in cultures of the island for its improvement . They also have animals
