Gehad El-Haddad


Gehad El-Haddad (c.1981) is an Egyptian political activist of the Muslim Brotherhood. He has acted as spokesman for the media for the Brotherhood after the Egyptian coup of 2013. In September 2013 he was arrested for "inciting violence", as well as many other members of the Brotherhood.

He is the son of Essam El-Haddad, a member of the Guidance Office of the Brotherhood, Gehad El-Haddad grew up in Alexandria. He studied marketing and film in the United Kingdom with a Chevening scholarship, worked on Amr Khaled's television series, Life Makers. Encouraged by Khairat al-Shater, he returned to Egypt, working for the Center for Industrial Modernization and the Clinton Climate Initiative while volunteering for Shater's Renaissance Project.
