Jean-Louis Petit (March 13, 1674 - April 20, 1750) was a French surgeon, renowned for being the inventor of the turnstile. It was the first enthusiasm for anatomy, he received a master's degree in surgery in Paris in 1700. He became a member of the Royal French Academy of Sciences in 1715, and was appointed director of the Royal French Academy of Surgery by the King when he was created in 1731. He acquired great notoriety due to his skill and experience, thanks to his studies of cases of hemorrhage, lacrimal fistula, operation in the frenulum, in his treatise on bone diseases and especially for his general treatise on surgical operations , in which he worked for 12 years and which was completed after his death by François-Dominique Lesné (1722-1800).
