John Strasberg


John Strasberg (born May 20, 1941 in New York) is the son of Lee and Paula Strasberg (creators of the Actors Studio), and the brother of actress Susan Strasberg. He is married to Anne Strasberg, artist classified in the family of the naive, primitive painters and also among the "folk artists".

John Strasberg directed and directed productions by Shakespeare, Ibsen, O'Neill, Odets and Aristophanes. He teaches the creative organic process, which is distinct from the method made famous by people like Stanislavski and the father of John Strasberg (Strasberg method).

He wrote a book about his technique and experience, Accidentally on Purpose: Reflections on Life, Acting, and the Nine Natural Laws of Creativity (Reflections on Life, Actor Play, and the Nine Natural Laws of creativity).

In the 1970s, he worked at the National Film Board of Canada and was Executive Director of the Lee Strasberg Theater Institute. In the 1980s, he co-founded The Mirror Repertory Company in New York. His theater school, John Strasberg's The Real Stage, had branches in New York, Paris and Montreal. In 1996, he opened John Strasberg Studios, and in 2005, founded the Accidental Repertory Theater, in New York.

Regularly present in France is the Compagnie du Nez in which he is the godfather who coordinates his internships and offers throughout the year an artistic practice in the spirit of his teaching.
