Manifesto of 363

The Manifest of 363, the designation of the 363 (most republican) parliamentarians in the Chamber of Deputies (Chambre des Députés) in France on May 16, 1877, depicted a motion of suspicion against the monarchist government led by the Orléanist premier duc de Broglie. The Broglie was appointed by the (Monarchist) President, Patrice de Mac Mahon, that day after the last resignation of the Conservative Republican Jules Simon. Following the motion of mistrust De Broglie decided Mac-Mahon to proclaim new parliamentary elections that gave a republican majority (October 1877) and the president forced himself to nominate the temperate republican Jules Dufaure as prime minister (December 13, 1877). The power of the monarchists was temporarily broken. Also see
