God

Chukwu is the name of the supreme deity in traditional Igbo mythology, worshiped by the Igbo people. The name Chukwu is an acronym that is composed of the word "Chi" (God) and the word "ukwu" (big or big). There is no concept of a type of gender, such as "man" or "woman" associated with the supreme deity Chukwu, as there are no words in the Igbo language to categorize Chukwu as male or female.

Chukwu is the creator in the igbo pantheon, and the Igbo believe that all things come from Chukwu, such as the rains needed for the plants to grow. Everything on earth, heaven and the rest of the spiritual world is under the control of Chukwu.

When European Colonialism introduced Christianity to the Igbo people, the name Chukwu was also applied to the Christian God, and so it is used among the many Igbo who have converted to Christianity in modern times.
