Grote Waterpoort (Delfzijl)

The current Great Water Gate of Delfzijl from 1833 is located in the dike at the end of the Havenstraat. The Waterpoort is one of the water gates that Delfzijl knows. There is also the Little Water Gate, which is also called De Ruyterpoort.

The Water Gate was restored in the 1970s and is still in use as a coupure. At high flood the gate is closed by means of a metal door. At the harbor side is a stone with inscription marking the spring flood of 1962. The marker in the Waterpoort Previous Large Water Port
