Hospital of Valdefuentes


Valdefuentes Hospital, located near the town of Galarde (municipality of Arlanzón), was a welfare center of the Camino Francés de Camino de Santiago. The hospital was run by Cistercians and depended on the Monastery of Veruela. Alfonso VIII of Castile granted a charter in favor of this hospital on June 7, 1187.

It was essential for the pilgrims, since they could rest and recover there to continue the march after the hard and dangerous crossing of the Montes de Oca. It lasts because of the broken topography of the land; dangerous for the insecurity of a territory plagued by road robbers.
