Laminotomía

Sagittal section of two lumbar vertebrae and their ligaments. The vertebral lamina and the conjunction hole can be observed.

Laminotomy is a surgical technique used to treat a herniated disc. Process

Consists of increasing the space between the sheets of 2 contiguous vertebrae of the spine, with the aim of expanding the size of the conjunct hole and decompressing the nerve root that causes pain to the patient. Laminotomy involves removing a small amount of bone from the vertebra on which the intervention is performed. This technique should not be confused with laminectomy (complete extirpation of the vertebral lamina) with which it has some similarities.Laminotomy is performed more frequently in the cervical or lumbar area. Indications

The intervention is performed as a treatment for the herniated disc, also in stenosis of the spinal canal of another origin.
