The book tells the story of a French native of Bordeaux, Etienne Girard, who arrives in Philadelphia the day of the Declaration of Independence of the United States, July 4, 1776. Under his new name, Stephen Girard, thanks to his business acumen and knowledge of the economy he will become the first American millionaire in just thirty years.
