Borsele is a municipality in the south-west of the Netherlands, in the Zuid-Beveland region, province of Zeeland.

The name of the municipality is written with a single "s", while that of the core of the main population is written with double "s" (Borssele).

In Borssele there is a nuclear power plant with a pressurized water reactor (PWR) with a net power of 452 MW. It is the only nuclear plant in operation for the production of electricity in the Netherlands. The operating authorization has been extended until 2033, twenty years longer than the originally planned closure date (2013).

The COGEMA Center reprocesses spent fissile material in La Hague, Lower Normandy (France). Part of the treatment of nuclear waste, ie reprocessing products which are not reusable, are returned to the Netherlands, where they are stored in the COVRA (Central Nuclear Waste Warehouse), which is also located in Borssele and is the national site for all nuclear waste. It has a sufficient area for the next 100 years.
