Carlos Riesco


Carlos Riesco Grez (1925-2007) was a Chilean musical composer. He studied at the University of Chile the Music career, specializing in composition. He was a disciple of Nadia Boulanger and co-disciple with Astor Piazzolla, in France. In 1954 he composed at the request of the French Ballet the work Candelaria. Other creations were Quintet for Wind Instruments, Rhapsody for Piano and Symphony of Profundis.

He was President of the Chilean Academy of Fine Arts. In his successful career he was distinguished by the promotion and encouragement of musical creation in Chile, which led him to receive the National Music Arts Prize in 2000. After suffering a long illness, he died on May 20, 2007 at the age of 81.
