The headquarters of the department
The United States Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is a United States Government Cabinet with the goal of protecting the health of all Americans and providing of essential social services. Its motto is "Improve the health, safety and well-being of America".
The department was created when President Jimmy Carter signed the Education Department of the Organic Law (PL 96-88) into law on October 17, 1979. That the Department of Health, Education and Welfare is divided (HEW ), which includes the Social Security Administration, the agencies that make up the Public Health Service, the Family Support Administration, and the Office of Education in the Department of Health and Social Services. (In 1995, the Social Security Administration has withdrawn from the Department of Health and Social Services, and established it as an independent body of the executive branch of the Government of the United States).
