Cornelis Bavelaar (1777-1831)


Cornelis Bavelaar (Leiden, 17 August 1777 - 30 August 1831) was a Dutch carpenter and artworker, son of sculptor Cornelis Bavelaar senior and father of artwork Joannes Franciscus Bavelaar.

They manufactured the small chests of drawers known as the bavelaarts.

Cornelis Bavelaar was baptized protestant but married in 1801 with Roman Catholic Maria Johanna de Does They received 15 children, all baptized in catholicity.

Cornelis retained his Protestant identity. Unlike his wife and children, he was not buried at the cathedral cemetery at the Zijlpoort, but in the cemetery at the Herenpoort.

Maria Johanna died 14 years after Cornelis on October 5, 1845.
