English coat of arms

Official shield of English

The official shield of Anglés has the following coat of arms:

Tiled shield: of argén, 2 azure churches placed in girdle accompanied by a goat arrested of saber in the head, and of an elm plucked from sinople in the tip. By stamp a crown of a villa mural. History

It was approved on December 18, 1986.

The two churches make to the etymology of the name of the town, derived from the late Latin "ecclesiis", that is, iglasia. The churches also represent the two ancient towns that formed the municipality, Anglés and the Cellera de Ter, since the latter was united to Anglés. The goat of saber comes from the talking arms of the viscounts of Cabrera, gentlemen of the town in the medieval time. Finally, the elm is a talking signal coming from the arms of the Olmera, masters of the town in the eighteenth century.
