Johannes (Jojo) Engelfriet (January 27, 1908 - August 1, 1981) was a Dutch actuary and director of a life insurance company that played an important role in the history of the computer in the Netherlands.

Engelfriet studied viticulture and physics at the University of Leiden and graduated there in 1933. After that, he joined the Life Insurance Society Arnhem, where he eventually became director. After the merger with the Nillmij in 1952, he eventually became president-president. Here he took the initiative for automation, which in 1956 led to the creation of Electrologica, a company that built the first X1 for the Nillmij in 1958. Until the sale of Electrologica to Philips in 1966, Engelfriet became intense with this company, especially with the software department, which was located in the building of Nillmij until 1965.

In addition, Engelfriet was special and later extraordinary professor of actuarial science at the University of Amsterdam from 1948 to 1978 and member of Dutch and international organizations. He therefore played an important role in the development of the field. family Sources
