Thomas Lurz (born November 28, 1979) is a German swimmer who specializes in long distance swimming, especially swimming in open water. Lurz lives in Gerbrunn and nothing for the sports club SV Würzburg 05.
He competed for Germany in the 2004 Olympic Games in the 1,500 m freestyle event where he lost the final but returned to the 2008 Olympic Games where he won a bronze medal in the open water race 10 kilometers. He was world champion in the 10-kilometer open water event in 2004. In 2005, he won gold at the 5-kilometer event, but finished in the silver medal position for Chip Peterson of the United States in the event of 10 kilometers.
