Dundee Society

The Dundee Society is a student club that has taken the CA-400 cryptology course from the National Security Agency taught by Lambros D. Callimahos. This course uses the Zendian problem, an exercise on traffic analysis and cryptanalysis.

The course is held once a year and new members are introduced into the club at the end of the course. The Dundee Society was created in the mid-1950s and continues to exist after the Callimahos retreat in 1976. The club disappears in 1979.

The name comes from an empty jar of Dundee Marmalade that Callimahos has on his desk to put away his pens. The name was chosen when Callihamos wanted to have a meal with former students in a restaurant at the Ft. Meade Officers' Club but he could not then choose the name of the course or the name of the agency for the reservation for For security reasons, he then chose the Dundee Society name to book after seeing the pot preview on his desk.

Subsequently he donated a Dundee Marmalade ceramic pot to students who took the course as an entrance ceremony to the Dundee Society. When Dundee starts using glass jars, Callimahos decides to retrieve the ceramic pots after each ceremony and use them the following year, and members are encouraged to find a ceramic pot on their own if they want to keep a souvenir. of their entry into the club.
