Gao Qi


Gao Qi (高 旗), is a Chinese singer and songwriter, born in Beijing on February 26, 1968. He is the lead singer of the rock band Overload, he was raised in a classical music family, because his father is a tenor and his mother a pianist.

After retiring from university, Gao, who worked as a guitarist and composer, joined the Breath group, a rock band that performed a live concert at a festival called "Modern Rock Music" that was organized in Beijing , in the month of February of 1990. The band released its first album titled Breath with which it became known in the rest of Asia in 1991.

Fascinated by the heavy metal genre Gao then created his own band called Overload, along with guitarist Han Hongbin, bassist Li Yanliang and drummer Xueke Wang Zhao Muyang.

Gao wrote the songs to combine the western rock genre and Chinese literature, to his advantage burst the enthusiasm of both the public and the musicians. The group built a style called Thrash metal, which began to attract a large number of fans in a short time.

The first single released by this band, The Shadow of Ancestor, was recorded for an album titled Rock Beijing under the label of Rock China in 1993. Meanwhile, Gao Qi's knowledge of modern Chinese rock and music Western gave him the opportunity to be hired as a music producer and composer for a first movie titled Long Hair in the Wind. As a professional and independent musician he became known abroad with the support of a radio communication medium called Beijing Music Broadcasting.
