Isla Das

Das (Arabic: جزيرة داس) is a small 1.2 km² island with a rectangular shape, in the Persian Gulf, emirate of Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, about 180 km northwest of the city of Abu Dhabi and about 140 of the emirate coast.

This island was formerly a center where turtles lay eggs and as a refuge for thousands of seabirds, most of the birds disappeared when the island became an oil and gas center in the 1960s, but in recent years has returned the bird Sterna, which has managed to adapt to these conditions.

It is currently a Terminal for oil and gas pipelines of "Abu Dhabi Marine Operating Co." and "Abu Dhabi Gas Liquefaction Co." , both part of the group "Abu Dhabi National Oil Co." The Terminal was created in the late fifties (1959) when oil was found and a team landed on the island, which was deserted, studying the terrain and establishing an industry.

There is a small airport on the island at 12 meters.

There are few prints of the ancient inhabitants of Das Island apart from some pieces of Islamic pottery. The island was also used as a place of refuge during the storms of fishermen and pearl divers.
