Pablo Angeles (Bacolor, August 17, 1889 - May 16, 1965), also known as Pablo Angeles David, was a Filipino politician. David was, among other things, governor of Pampanga and member of the Philippine House of Representatives and the Senate of the Philippines. biography
Pablo Angeles David was born in Bacolor in the province of Pampanga as son of Carlos Angeles and Ceferia David. His father was a member of the Katipunan and had a Spanish academy, where he also taught. Several of his students later became known nationally, such as Judge Jose Gutierrez David, Nicolas Dayrit and Benigno Aquino sr. Pablo himself went to Medesto Joaquin's private school from 1900 to 1901 and completed the Liceo de Manila in 1906. Then he studied rights to the Escuela de Derecho. In 1910, he obtained his Bachelor's degree in Law and also passed the entrance examination for the Philippine counter (bar exam). After his admission to the Philippine counter, he was the youngest practicing advocate of the Philippines.
In 1912, David was appointed Justice of Peace from his native town of Bacolor. A year later, a nomination took place as deputy provincial fiscal. In 1916 he was elected for three years as a provincial councilor. In 1918 he was also chairman of the local electoral council. In 1919 he was elected as delegate on behalf of Pampanga's first constituency. At the 1931 election he was elected Pampanga governor, after which he was re-elected in 1934.
After the Japanese occupation during World War II, David was re-governor of Pampanga from 1945 to 1947. In the 1947 elections, he was elected as a member of the Philippine Senate. As a senator he was known for his fiery expositions. Thus, in 1950, President Elpidio Quirino attacked his statement that the Hukbalahaps were eradicated. Sources
