Santiago Escudero and Blasco


Santiago Escudero and Blasco (ca. 1870-post 1931) was a librarian of Alfonso XIII of Spain. Service in the Royal Library

After studying Philosophy and Literature, in 1897 he won a third official position in the Corps of Archives, Libraries and Museums, with destination in the National Library of Spain. On April 1, 1911 he entered the Royal Library of Madrid recommended by the then Marquis of Viana, Jose de Saavedra and Salamanca, horseman and senior montero of Alfonso XIII. He replaced Ramón Menéndez Pidal, who left the vacancy of temporary assistant, what is now called a fellow, and who had dealt with the manuscript royal chronicles. Until 1931 it belonged to the Royal Library, having to leave it that summer when applying the law of the Second Republic of June 15 that prevented state officials from belonging to the former Royal House and Heritage.
