Soplo de Carey Coombs

Carey Coombs Breath is a clinical sign that appears in patients with mitral valve involvement during an acute episode of rheumatic fever. It is described as a short, mesodiastolic murmur that is best heard in the apex and disappears when valvular affectation improves. It is commonly associated with a S3 gallop rhythm and can be distinguished from the diastolic murmur of mitral stenosis by the absence of opening crack. Breath is caused by increased blood flow through the stented valve.
