Stolnic was a Romanian nobility of the courts of the Romanian principalities of Moldavia and Wallachia. The charge corresponded roughly to that of seneschal or major butler, and came from the Slavonic stolnik term, which in turn, derives from the word stol, "table", being theoretically responsible for the prince's table.
This range is derived from stolnic mother or "great senescal".
It appears documented for the first time in 1392 in Wallachia and in 1393 in Moldova.
