The column or tower used in industrial chemistry is a facility that is used to perform certain processes such as distillation, absorption, adsorption, depletion, etc .; and whose utility is to separate the various components of a simple or complex mixture.

The columns are cylindrical devices, of height greater than their diameter, that can be of diverse types:

In the columns there is usually a countercurrent movement between the falling liquid and the rising vapor. It is during this movement when the components are purified to the desired quality in the design. Bibliography
