Gestalt theoretical psychotherapy

Gestalt theoretical psychotherapy is a method of psychotherapy based strictly on the psychology of Gestalt. It was developed by psychologist and German gestalt psychotherapist Hans-Jürgen Walter and his colleagues from Germany and Austria. One of the most striking features of this psychotherapy is the key role of the epistemological grounding position of Gestalt theory (critical realism) and its applicability to fundamental, theoretical, and practical problems in psychotherapy. In Gestalt theoretical psychotherapy this is closely linked to the basic (holistic, phenomenological, experimental) methodological approach of Gestalt theory, its theoretical approach to the system, and its specific psychophysical and psychological attitude.

The theoretical psychotherapy gestalt is related, but with some distinctive features, of the gestalt therapy of Fritz Perls in its theoretical foundation. Many experts in Gestalt psychology have pointed out the differences between Gestalt theory in its original sense and Perls' own understanding and focus.
