Jan Vranken (lawyer)


Jan Bernardus Marie (Jan) Vranken (1948) was a Dutch professor of private law at Tilburg University. Publications

Vranken graduated from the University of Nijmegen in 1978 on the meaning of Hans-Georg Gadamer's hermeneutics for the trial. From 1983 to 1997 he was professor of Civil Law and Civil Procedure at the Tilburg University. From 1992 to 1997 he also served as Advocate General at the Supreme Court. Since 1997 he has been a professor in the methodology of private law. In 2013 he went on a whim. Publications

Vranken is the three-part writer in the leading Asser series: General Share ** (from 1995), General Share *** (from 2005) and General Share **** (from 2014). His books apply as standard works of law. In law enforcement, the question is mainly: how does a judge judge? Which interpretation methods does a judge use? In addition, he wrote many profound and innovative books, articles and annotations, including in 1989: "Information, Information and Research Commitments in Contract Law." Awards

Vranken was appointed member of the KNAW Royal Netherlands Academy of Sciences in 1993 in the department of Behavioral, Social and Law Sciences. He received an honorary doctorate from Leiden University in 2005 and the Knightship in the Order of the Dutch Lion.
