Gayō Marətan (or Gayōmard or Gayōmart in later Zoroastrian texts) is the Avestan name of the first mythological man in ancient Iranian culture. The corresponding name in Middle Iranian is Kayōmart, while in modern Persian it is Keyumars.

In Ferdowsi's Shahnameh he is mentioned as the first shāh in the world. He is also called the pishdad (پيشداد), the first man to exercise justice, who gives the laws.

The original Avestan name is translated as "mortal life", of gaya "life" and marətan "mortal" (or "human", cf. Persa mard مرد "man"). The name literally means "The living mortal being."

Keyumars is also a popular personal name in contemporary Iran. Sources
