Samalayuca dunes are a vast desert area located in the northern tip of the Mexican state of Chihuahua, about 50 miles south of Ciudad Juárez. They receive their name because the main population of the region is the town of Samalayuca.

The dunes are made up of silica sand dunes, white and fine that move with the wind, and are the center of a much wider desert region, which constitutes the Chihuahua Desert, however, unlike the zones surrounding areas that have a large plant population of spiny scrub that prevents the mobility of the sand, the area of dunes is mostly free of them, which sometimes causes sandstorms that impede visibility.

The dunes extend mainly in the Municipality of Juárez and in the neighbors of Ascension and Guadalupe, are crossed from north to south by the Federal Highway 45 and the Railroad Mexico-Ciudad Juárez, in recent times they constitute a tourist attraction, on all of adventure tourism.

On June 5, 2009, a decree of President Felipe Calderón Hinojosa established the Median Flora and Fauna Protection Area of Samalayuca. At the cinema
