Mike Vernon

Michael 'Mike' Vernon (Harlow, November 20, 1944) is a British record producer for the Decca label. He produced the recordings of British blues musicians and rock bands in the sixties of the last century, such as John Mayall's Bluesbreakers, Eric Clapton, Fleetwood Mac, Peter Green, Chicken Shack, Ten Years After, David Bowie. He also produced for the Dutch band Focus.

Vernon is known as the founder of the blueshabel Blue Horizon. In 1963 he worked for Decca Records. There he made records with famous American blues performers like Curtis Jones, Champion Jack Dupree and Otis Spann. Vernon encouraged John Mayall to record a record with Eric Clapton. That became the album Blues Breakers with Eric Clapton, a LP that would be named as a breakthrough for the British blues.

In the seventies, Vernon directed himself not only to blues music but also produced other music. Examples of these are the previously mentioned Focus and Groups as Level 42, Dexys Midnight Runners, The Pasadenas, The Proclaimers, Dr. Feelgood and Chris Farlowe.

In the eighties, Vernon revived the Blue Horizon label, and in the nineties he founded another two blues labels: Indigo and Code Blue. Externe link
