Air Car

Tata/MDI OneCAT

The Air Car is a car prototype developed and produced by Moteur Développement International (MDI), founded by the French inventor Guy Nègre. Technology

It is a compressed air vehicle whose engine was specially designed for this vehicle. The compressed air is stored in a carbon fiber tank with a pressure in the order of 30 MPa (4500 psi or 300 bar) and, instead of mixing fuel with air to burn it and move the pistons with the hot gases product of combustion, the air motor uses the expansion of stored compressed air to move the pistons and, therefore, the wheels. Emissions

Air cars are free of emissions through the exhaust pipe, but their compressed air tank is recharged using electric compressors and if the electricity is taken from the general distribution network, it will come from the various sources that feed it , including thermal power stations that work from fossil fuels. Then, only if the electric power comes from renewable sources, the Air Car will then be a vehicle free of greenhouse emissions.
