The Belojemeer (Russian: озеро Белое) is a lake in Nizhni Novgorod, Russia, located about 300 meters from the village of Bolotkinovo. In May 2005, it suddenly disappeared overnight due to unknown cause. It has been speculated that the water could have disappeared in an underground river or cave due to soil decline. Seventy years earlier, several houses near the lake would have been swallowed by a similar cause. Later it turned out that there were probably cavities in a caretaker under the more responsible for the disappearance of the water. After it was filled with sand and other material, it started to fill in again in 2006.
